SENIOR SCHOOL – SMALL CLASSES, INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) AND VCE VM
Delivering the International Baccalaureate (IB), our secondary school campus is divided into three parts: Cycle 4 (Years 7 and 8), Cycle 5 (Years 9 and 10), and Cycle 6 (Years 11 and 12). In the final years of Secondary School, students have the option to choose between our VCE VM or the IB program.
Small class sizes ensure that every student is known, supported, and challenged at their own pace. The IB programme equips students with internationally recognised credentials while fostering curiosity, independence, and a global outlook. For those drawn to practical learning, the VCE VM provides real-world pathways into trades, business, and entrepreneurship.
Students also benefit from a strong sense of community and belonging. Our campus culture encourages collaboration across year levels, with older students mentoring younger peers and contributing to a supportive environment. Leadership opportunities, and service learning are embedded into the curriculum, giving students the chance to develop initiative, empathy, and responsibility. This balance of academic challenge, personal growth, and real-world engagement ensures that every graduate leaves MMC not only with qualifications, but also with the confidence and character to thrive in any pathway they choose.
Local High School – International Offering
Unique to our school is our Occupations program. In years 7 – 10 students are offered this course – where they learn real life skills designed to equip them for the workforce. From hospitality to horticulture to theatre production and content creation, these classes are hands on, practical and unique. MMC stands out as an excellent alternative high school choice for your child, due to offerings like these.
The VCE (VM) (formerly known as Montessori Careers Program) is available to Year 11 and 12 students who wish to pursue vocational studies that will develop high-level employment related skills and knowledge, broaden their personal skills and prepare them for entrance into the workplace. Based in the Montessori philosophy, the Montessori Careers Program incorporates studies in the VCE (VM). The program is designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge that they will need to succeed and thrive.
MMC also provides students with access to global pathways through the International Baccalaureate and a strong language program. Senior School students can study French, Spanish, or Mandarin, opening doors to cultural fluency and future opportunities in an increasingly interconnected world. These languages are taught not only as academic subjects but as tools for cross-cultural communication, enriching travel, exchange, and career possibilities. Combined with small classes, individual mentoring, and pathways into either the IB or VCE VM, MMC offers students a uniquely global education grounded in real-world skills.

An IB World School
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is a two-year curriculum that fosters high academic standards and international understanding for our Year 11 and 12 students. It is recognised by Australian tertiary institutions and major universities worldwide as the gold standard in university preparation. Offering more than just academic knowledge, the learner and their personal development are central to the IB Diploma Programme. Students explore and develop their intellectual, emotional and ethical attributes with the IB Learner Profile and develop an excellent breadth and depth of academic knowledge.
MMC senior school focuses on individualised learning, purposely designed small classes, student empowerment and academic achievement. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, we adhere to the highest standards of education, preparing our high school students for success in a rapidly changing world.
The IB at MMC includes distinctive elements such as the Theory of Knowledge course, the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), which encourage students to think critically, engage with their community, and pursue independent research. This holistic approach ensures our graduates are not only academically prepared, but also resilient, compassionate, and equipped with the problem-solving skills to make a positive impact beyond school. It is an education that challenges students to see themselves as global citizens, ready to contribute meaningfully wherever life takes them.
The Occupations Program – Real-World Learning in Action
At Melbourne Montessori College, learning goes far beyond textbooks. Our unique Occupations Program, offered from Years 7 to 10, immerses students in real-world projects that connect academic learning with practical experience. Rooted in Montessori principles of independence and purposeful work, Occupations give students the opportunity to explore fields such as hospitality, horticulture, theatre production, digital content creation, and more.
Through these hands-on classes, students learn transferable skills like teamwork, communication, creativity, and problem-solving while also gaining a deeper appreciation of industry-specific knowledge. Each occupation mirrors authentic workplace expectations, helping young people build confidence, responsibility, and resilience.
The program not only equips students with life-ready skills but also sparks passions that can guide their future study and career choices. Whether pursuing the International Baccalaureate, VCE VM, or other post-school pathways, students bring with them a solid foundation of practical expertise and the confidence to navigate a fast-changing world. With its unique blend of academic learning and applied experience, the Occupations Program is unmatched among Melbourne high schools. It reflects MMC’s belief that education should prepare students not just for exams, but for life.
