Full Name: Karan Jones

Position: MMC Librarian

How long have you been at MMC? Since Term 3 2024

Where were you beforehand?

I previously worked as a designer for the tableware brand Maxwell & Williams. Prior to that, I spent over 20 years as a librarian in universities and public libraries across Victoria and New South Wales.

What do you love about working at MMC?

I love being part of a community that celebrates curiosity, creativity and a genuine love of learning.

What inspires you as a Montessori educator/team member?

Seeing children explore and discover independently inspires me. I love watching how curious they become when they find a book they love.

What is your most memorable teaching moment?

Watching a student become deeply engrossed in reading, after initially expressing that they disliked reading.

What’s your most memorable moment as a school student?

Discovering that my school library had the complete Asterix and Obelix collection.

What are five interesting things about you we may not know?

  1. I have many books. 😊
  2. I enjoy weaving. I have a table loom at home and love creating my own designs.
  3. I fear all fast and spinning rides at fun parks.
  4. I love key lime pie.
  5. I play piano and dance an Irish jig, but not at the same time.

What does your weekend look like?

Visiting cafes, op shops and watching films.

What is your favourite Maria Montessori quote, and why?

“The child should love everything that he learns, for his mental and emotional growths are linked.”I like this quote because in a library, children’s love of learning through books nurtures both their minds and their hearts.
